First Basket Scorer Stats
Whether you are looking for the first basket scorer stats of the season, or you are looking to analyze your team’s players in a game, there are a few factors to consider before you make your picks. Some of these factors are: Whether your team has a scoring leader, and how well he is performing.
Luka Doncic
Despite a relatively modest NBA career, Luka Doncic is becoming a real force. The 20-year-old Slovenian is making the leap from a junior to an NBA superstar. He has already made an impact in the league, including a 40-point triple-double and winning the Final Four MVP. He is also a member of the Slovenian national team and was named the best young player in the EuroLeague.
In the NBA, Luka Doncic leads the way with an NBA-high usage rate of 37.9%. That’s more than three times the usage rate of his closest rival, Kawhi Leonard, and more than three times the usage rate of the league’s all-time leading triple-doubler, Michael Jordan.
In his first 10 games, Doncic averaged 19.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. He also had one block and two steals. He was named to the All-Rookie First Team and earned the Western Conference Player of the Week award in November.
Kristaps Porzingis
Despite a rough start to the season, Kristaps Porzingis is proving to be a valuable fantasy asset. In fact, he has been ranked in the top-30 in 9-cat leagues since the start of the season. He also has a reputation for hunting the first basket of the game. In fact, he has made his first basket in at least 29% of games started this season.
Porzingis has been one of the top scorers in the league in November. He is averaging 20.7 points per game. He also averages a whopping 23.5 points per game over the last ten games.
In the second quarter, he was 6-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. He also accumulated five assists and two steals. He slowed down a bit in the fourth quarter. But he still finished the night with four rebounds and two blocks.
Marcus Morris Sr
During his junior season at Kansas, Marcus Morris showed off his game with a triple-double, and earned the honor of being named to the All-Big 12 team. However, there are still things he can improve.
Although Morris’ production was below average on both ends of the floor, he showed a good touch in the post. He also possesses a nice lateral quickness.
He also has a solid first step. He gets his production by running the floor and switching on screens out on the perimeter. He also has a solid dribble-up game and makes timely passes out of the post. However, he also shows poor awareness on rotations.
In the last three games, he has averaged 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 3.3 assists. He also showed off his shooting touch, knocking down a 4-for-10 performance from beyond the arc.
Marcus Valanciunas
Throughout his NBA career, Valanciunas has played for the Lithuanian men’s national basketball team. He played for Lithuania at EuroBasket 2011 and helped the country claim fifth place in the tournament. He was selected as a starter for the Lithuanian team in the 2014 FIBA World Cup and earned All-Tournament honors.
Valanciunas made his NBA debut in 2012 with the Toronto Raptors. He surpassed his career high for threes in the first half, and he led his team to victory. In four games, he averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was selected to the Eastern Conference All-Rookie team, and he was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.
On July 22, 2013, he was named MVP of the Las Vegas Summer League. He also made his debut for the Lithuanian senior men’s national basketball team. He played a major role in the Lithuanian victory, scoring 26 points. He also recorded 10 rebounds and one block.
Oscar Schectman
During his one-year stint with the New York Knickerbockers in 1946, Oscar “Ossie” Schectman scored the first basket in NBA history. The basket, which came against the Toronto Huskies, was scored in the BAA (now the NBA) on November 1, 1946.
Schectman was born in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Odessa, Ukraine. He attended Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn. He graduated in 1937. He went on to play college basketball at Long Island University, where he was a member of the National Championship team. He was named to the Converse All-American first team as a senior.
Schectman was a member of the NBA for one season, and the third-leading scorer on his team. He averaged 8.1 points and 2.0 assists a game. He was also the highest-win-share player on his team. He ended his BAA career with 435 points. He was a member of the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. He died at age 94 in Delray Beach, Florida.
